Is this really camping? After the Webelos' graduation into the Troop, we all headed out to Alpine New Jersey for Cabin Camping. During the day, Alpine had received 7-8 inches of new snow to welcome us into the camp. We hiked 1/2 mile to the cabin (bringing only what we needed for the night). Upon arrival, we wondered if we were in heaven. The cabin has a stone fireplace for building a heating fire, a kitchen with a 4 burner gas stove, gas lanterns mounted on the walls, and even some gas heaters (we only used 1 in the bunk room). All the comfort of home!
Saturday, it was a brisk 25o, but the sky was clear blue. What a great day for a hike! After breakfast and getting the Troop Trailer down to the Cabin, we headed out to the the Palisades Trail. This go around we stayed up top and headed south. Since we needed to be back in the camp early, we cut the hike down to about 6 miles total. The weather warmed up while we were hiking and the trail started to turn to mud. This time we only had 1 casualty; some adults don't seem to know how to duck under the branches.
We cooked hotdogs hamburgers and buffalo wings cooked by "Chef Mike" for lunch and knocked out some requirements for the new Scouts and basically just crashed (see Pics).
For dinner, we had a great pasta meal cooked by "Chef Randy" and some new Scouts (way to keep after those requirements) and relaxed in front of the fire.
Sunday morning, a quick breakfast, packed up the trailer, cleaned out the cabin, and hiked to the cars and we were on our way home.
The weekends just go too fast when we are having a good time.
We will be back!
